Hear Tim Skinner's work at the I.C.A.

Our Alumni

Tim Skinner graduated from our BA Fine Art in 2003 and has continued to develop his practice through a range of interesting projects and residencies. His latest project took his work to London's Institute of Contemporary Art where he developed a new audio work in response to Bruce Nauman's work titled 'Days'

Check out his website to hear the work & find out how it was developed...

'This is a sound commission for the ICA, which firstsite nominated me for. The work to be exhibited alongside Bruce Naumen's sonic installation 'Days', originally shown in the MOMA 2009. The brief for the commission is to reflect the concepts circling Naumen's piece, ideas centred on repetition and time.
Time and repetition frequently appear in my work, but for this piece I wanted to keep it fairly pure, which is the beauty of Naumens 'Days'. So decided to do seven recordings of seven minutes over a week. When I need time to think, fresh air, exercise, I go for a walk out in the Essex countryside, often walking alongside this river which runs at the bottom of a small valley. It has always had an alluring sonic landscape, this project gave me the chance to explore this.

Between Mon 26th March - Sun 1st April, I made seven 7minute recordings, first starting at 9:00am on the Monday, 10:00am Tuesday and so on finishing at 3:00pm Sunday. Each seven minutes are deconstructed, slicing into individual minutes, then layering on top of each other. So altering the fabric of time.' (extract from Tim's website)
